LANdLine Project Oil Street
Description
"Algorithmic Spectacle: A Theatre of Possible Urban Futures"
This installation presents a new interpretation of the Situationist approach enabled by contemporary technology, extending beyond spatial aspects of psychogeographic mapping to explore temporal layers of urban evolution at North Point. Three connected vertical displays with a modified telephone interface stage an algorithmic performance where visitors witness artificial agents debating the district's future.
Act One animates the historical transformation of the past century through Situationist mapping. Act Two presents a theatrical debate between AI agents on development tensions—sustainability, density, and cultural identity—challenging audiences to move from passive spectatorship to active participation through telephone intervention. Act Three generates personalized future scenarios based on audience responses, allowing visitors to receive their preferred vision by tapping the landline phone to their mobile device in a ceremonial passing of the digital baton.
This installation creates a ""constructed situation"" to observe whether witnessing AI debate would stimulate audience engagement in public discourse about their communities.
