Sentient Mirror - Genius Loci
Description
"Architecture is the very mirror of life. You only have to cast your eyes on buildings to feel the presence of the past, the spirit of a place; they are a reflection on society"— I.M. Pei
The essence of mirrors has always been connected to the philosophy of seeing. The Sentient Mirror series continues to explore this consciousness of both self and the external world. The new edition turns the reflective surface toward the public realm, examining how collective memories and emotions invisibly shape the urban spaces we inhabit.
The installation consists of three interactive mirror monoliths. It transforms intimate memories and fleeting feelings into evolving architectural visions, facilitated by artificial intelligence and real-time emotion recognition. Visitors contribute memories to an expanding digital repository, NOÖSPHERE, while the system translates their facial expressions into evolving architectural forms drawn from Hong Kong’s architectural identity, generating an ever-fluid structure within the mirror.
What appears in the mirror is neither pure reality nor pure fiction, but a blend of personal memory and collective experience, creating a fluid "memory-scape". The city reveals itself not merely as an accumulation of physical structures, but as a vessel carrying countless perceptible souls, continuously layered and ever evolving.
What we build, builds us in return.
